The new member reception held on September 3, 2015 at River Falls was a highly successful event for the Woonsocket Rotary Club. The event was held to welcome prospective members, to experience a Rotary Club meeting and talk and mingle with Rotarians to learn about Rotary and the local Woonsocket club. The night turned out to be a great night for many including one new member who received his Rotary Pin and was welcomed as a Rotarian.

President Janice L. Contillo opened the event as a normal meeting, however the night was anything but normal. Rotarians and their significant others talked and mingled with over a half a dozen prospective members who came to the event to learn about Rotary and to possibly take the plunge as a new member of one of the City of Woonsocket's greatest service organizations. During the longer than normal two hour meeting, guest enjoyed food, drinks, fellowship and learned about Rotary from Rotarians like past present Robert Picard, who shared a slide show along with a history lesson on Rotary, its origins and how it affects the community and the world. Some other Rotarians, like Past-President Donald Beauregard and Immediate Past-President Michael Dubois, took to the mic to share their experiences and reasons why they joined Rotary years earlier.

For one person in attendance the night was extra special. The Club welcomed a new member, John D. Beaurgard of Cumberland, RI into the Woonsocket Rotary Club. Beauregard was sponsored by Rotarian Aram Jarret and successfully completed the application process for club membership. With his wife Olga by his side, Beauregard was sworn into the Club by Membership Chairperson Edward Skwirz and was proudly pinned by Aram Jarret.

The event, which is likely to repeat itself in the future, provided an opportunity for the Woonsocket Rotary Club to open its, "doors," per say, to anyone who wanted to know, "What is the Rotary Club" and "What do they do?"

Those "doors" are located at River Falls Restaurant, 74 South Main Street, Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and are open each week, on Thursday, at 12:15 PM for the Club's weekly meetings. Even though each weeks meeting is not a "new member reception" guests and prospective members are always welcome.
